Spiritual Nourishment: Feeding the Heart as Well as the Body

A girl reading a devotional book in the reading room

Sons of Manasseh began as a simple Saturday outreach that shared the Gospel and a small meal with vulnerable children. Almost two decades later, we still believe that every child needs both: good food for the body and nourishment for the spirit.

Many children come to us after loss or hardship. Knowing that they are loved, that they have a purpose and that their story is not over gives them something no meal or school uniform can: hope.

Stories, devotions and reading

Faith comes alive when it is shared in ways children can enjoy. Our children read Bible storybooks and devotionals, such as The Jesus Storybook Bible and Max Lucado's One God One Plan One Life, a 365-day devotional for students. Quiet reading time, questions and conversation help them grow in understanding and in character.

Growing in character

Spiritual nourishment shapes how children treat one another: with kindness, honesty, respect, gratitude and forgiveness. These are the values we pray will guide them long after they leave the home.

“A child who knows they are loved can believe in a brighter future.”

We are grateful to every church, partner and well-wisher who prays with us and stands with us. If you would like to be part of this journey, get involved
